Thought for the week
4th Aug 2001
I was reminded this week as the schools broke up and the local skate boarders are still looking for somewhere other than the footpath to practice their ‘art’, that it was just 3 years ago when it was agreed that facilities should be provided.

Doesn’t time just fly when you have democracy?

Remember - under the new system at Borough (starts in September), decisions and actions will be must faster and made by just a few. Applications after this time will receive money and help so much faster (or not, as the case maybe) or perhaps those in power will be able to explain just why a system designed to put more power in the hands of the few doesn’t deliver.

Thought for the week
27th Aug 2001

By now all residents will have received the latest newsletter produced by the Town Council. It’s full of news about what our Council has been up to over the past 3 years - whoops, I mean few months. The detail is amazing, full of information about an event that will take place in a months time.

For example, you can expect famous pop artists from the current hit parade, a full concert orchestra, a jazz band, ducks on the canal, parking, charity stalls, face painting and ‘all the fun of the fair’ (which actually leaves next week!), plus anything else you can think off. The only difficulty that I can see, is that in over three years of planning a program has yet to be produced, so don’t expect too much.

It really does make you wonder just what all the working parties get up to as the Council has disbanded all but two of the standing committees, increase the membership of those left and most decisions are taken by the numerous working groups. These are all open to the public - but agendas are non-existent, meeting dates not published and conclusions not made public - unless you actually happen to attend one.
