I was just thinking......
Period ending 9th June 2002
It was reported at the Annual Town meeting recently that the ‘new’ REX cinema has no parking provisions and that patrons will be expected to park in nearby streets.
Just where is there ‘nearby streets’ which do not have double yellow lines or be reserved for residents parking?

Hasn’t the weather been ‘variable’ recently.
I was at the Abbots Langley Carnival recently and was struck by the difference between Berkhamsted and Abbots Langley.
The Carnival was held on Town Council land, had a proper pavilion, on an area that was flat, well cared for and on more ground that a well known supermarket was built on a few years ago.
It might have something to do with the fact that the village is the largest Parish/Town Council in Hertfordshire and they didn’t just roll over in 1974 and give everything to ‘big borough’ (Three Rivers).
Berkhamsted UDC, who was Conservative controlled at the time, just handed everything over, except allotments, to Dacorum. In mitigation, ‘big borough’ allows Town/Parish Councils to carry out agreed functions ‘if it wishes to’, so that local representatives could take responsibility for what goes on in the town.
Neither the Conservatives nor the current Lib-Dem controlled Town Council show any sign of actually doing anything apart from complain to ‘big borough’ that things don’t get done. The Independent Council of 1995/99 started to build up a fund in order to start getting control back to the locally elected representatives - was that such a bad idea?

Successor to ‘Sunnyside Up’ - watch out for ‘Democratically Yours’ , but only if you live in the new Berkhamsted East ward and I am in a good mood!
