Monthly Column April 2002
Regular visitors will have noticed that the monthly column has almost turned into bi-monthly columns.
The reason is that you are not returning as frequently as you used to. Why not? I ask myself.
Well, perhaps you have forgotten I am still here.
Perhaps you have lost my address.
Perhaps you really don’t care.
Well, we really will have to do something about that, won’t we?
Let’s start with the obvious. You have all had those bills dropping on your door mat over the past week or two and after picking yourself off the floor, starting looking for another job to help pay for....... well yes, exactly what.
The Town Council is very busy looking for things to spend the £117,800 raised this year.
Well, when I first went on the Town Council, they had one full time clerk and one part time secretary. The work load has admittedly increased, but they seem to have 3 or 4 full time staff. They also have increased the number of Councillors., but have you seen twice the amount of facilities provided?
The canal work was in partnership with the Borough and British Waterways.
The footpaths were just done.
The Information Centre isn’t.
The information provided is less.
The skate board park is still on the wish list.
The seats were done in conjunction with a local charity
The Christmas lights was taken over during my time as the previous organisers couldn’t.
The Town Council still doesn’t use all the powers it could use as they are frightened of taking on the responsibility.
I will be standing for election in May 2003 - why not join me!
